Where my peeps at?!

I’ve loved connecting with all of you, so much!

Tell me where you’re from in the comments! ๐ŸŒŽ โฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธโฌ‡๏ธ ๐ŸŒŽ

Gotta love the 'About Me' sections of everything. I feel like I'm either in a one sided interview or trying to create a dating profile. "I like starry nights and long walks on the beach" Ha! All jokes aside, it is necessary to share your story. Especially in a place like this where you hope to reach people through your struggles. So here goes everything... Hi everyone ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ Grief is a journey, an ever changing and painful process. It can isolate you and make you feel more lonely than one could ever imagine. That is why I write and share my story. We need support. We need people that "get it." We need each other. I was married to the love of my life, just shy of 13 years. We went to school together, known him since elementary. He was my "boyfriend" in 5th grade. I even wrote "Joni Roberts" in my notebooks and cheered for him when he played basketball at recess ๐Ÿ˜‚ We came back together when we went to the prom, as friends, our senior year in high school. That was in 1997. We started dating seriously in the summer of 1998. He asked me to be his wife in February of 1999. We said "I do" on October 2nd of the same year. We had our first child in October of 2000, our son. We had our daughter, 22 months later in August of 2002. In the time we were married, we went through more than most could go through in a lifetime. We never gave up on each other. In June of 2012, he and I were in a horrible car accident that claimed his life. In an instant, my entire world was shattered, leaving me a grieving single mother of two grieving children who are now teenagers. I'm walking day by day through life without the one that would be with me forever. I would have never imagined that this is where I would be in my life at 38 years old. But, I am doing everything I can to be strong, to raise our two children, to take this grief and use it to fuel the purpose for the rest of my days here on earth. ONE. DAY. AT. A. TIME. Today: I am in the waiting room for my first neurologist appointment. It is in the same office as my surgeon from the accident. I'm sitting here remembering myself horribly hurt and in a wheelchair and I'm overwhelmed with feelings but mostly reflecting on how far I've come. I love and miss my best friend every single day. I'm positive that won't change until we are together again. I am choosing to try and live my life in a way that would honor him and make him proud. Living With Purpose.

      1. It’s just too peaceful and safe to live in ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญGhana๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ. And of course, a lot of tourists sites like the Mole National Park, Kakum National Park, Boti Falls, Monkey Sanctuary, Cape Cost Castle together with the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and many others both natural and artificial ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ญ.

  1. Dear Joni,

I am from Finland – here we can see the polar lights in the wintertime and in the summer time we have the mid-night sun – shining 24 hours.

    All good wishes
    Didi

      1. Yes, indeed it is and the nature is just fantastic. they also call country of the 1000 lakes. Infact we have over 100000 lakes here, surrounded by large forests. If you go to the north you can walk many days in the nature and will not see any persons…

Have a good time, dear Joni

    1. Hi! Itโ€™s really incredible to connect with so many people here, in the same place, that are so far from each other. I love it!

    1. One of my best friends is not too far from St Paul. Iโ€™ve been there 5 times now. โ€œMinnes-ohhh-taโ€ ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I’m from Chillicothe, Ohio. I love the farm land, hills, trees, lakes, and ponds. The changing seasons are spectacular as well. Summer fairs, changing of colors in fall; sled riding, snow-man making and snowy Christmas’s in winter, and the fresh chirping of birds and witnessing the birth of new life in Spring.

  3. I am from Canada! Was born and raised in Ontario and moved to Calgary in my 20โ€™s. Eventually we will probably move to the US. Is the word peep American slang for friend? We do not say that in Canada.

    1. I have two great Canadian friends. Hope to visit someday! Peeps… Plural of person; slang. Same as saying, where are my people/friends? ๐Ÿ˜Š

      1. Thank you for clarifying. A girl from the US on social media would often say peeps and I wondered where that slang came from. I have a couple of US friends and we send letters to each other. Each year, I try and send Christmas cards with a couple of personal photos and stickers, Canadian things (maple leaf keychains etc.) and other random things.

  4. Iโ€™m southeast of San Franciscoโ€”Iโ€™m in a part of Fremont that feels like itโ€™s own small town. Lots of trees, a breeze, and sunshine. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Yes, I like living here. Of course, I have lived here all my life, so I donโ€™t know what it would be like anywhere else. We are basically part of a tri-cities, yet each is separate. Kitchener has a population of about 150,000. We have a college, and one of our neighbouring cities, Waterloo, has two Universities.
Although we are in this metropolis, within a 15-20 minute drive we can be in the country, in a Mennonite farming community, seeing horse and buggies as the means of transportation for many.
        A unique community.

      1. For me, spending time with my kids and going to Celebrate Recovery every Thursday. For the rest of the town…probably going to Walmart. It’s the only store within a 30 mile radius.

  5. South Louisiana here! Best thing about my home town – the PEOPLE! Everyone cares about everyone – can’t beat that southern hospitality!

      1. The countryside, as I now live in a rural area. The mountains and not living far from the sea. I’m also within easy reach of cities like Chester and Liverpool. The peace most of all.

  6. Hi, I live near Toledo, Oh. The glass capital of the world. Well, we were known for that. Even though the ancient Egyptians made glass first. And home to where Jeep got started. Take care.

  7. Originally from New Zealand, but as they say in Texas (where I live now), โ€œI got here as fast as I could!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜œ
New Zealand is a beautiful country with so much packed into a small space (the whole country is the size of Colorado), you can go snow skiing in the morning and to the beach in the evening. It should be on everyoneโ€™s bucket list! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  8. Hi Joni – just noted that you โ€˜likedโ€™ a post Iโ€™d contributed to a short while back – thank you.
I read your background and the tragic loss you encountered, but really admire your steps forward in dealing with life.

Just for this post, Iโ€™m born and bred in Coventry. A West Midlands City in England.
I presently live in North East England with my wife, Beverley, who is from this area.

Noticed you were recently awaiting an appointment with the Neurologist, hope it went okay?
I am in Sunderland hospital later today for major surgery, hopefully if all goes well, I should be discharged by the weekend!

Lovely to make contact with you and keep tackling each day as it comes.
    Paul x

    1. Hi Paul! Thanks for stopping by! I hate to hear about your surgery. Iโ€™m praying you have a speedy recovery! Glad to have connected and look forward to reading more from you!
